A maniac… Trapped in a world of suffocating felt. Lancing needles. Boiling hot glue. Rotting in lament… Endlessly tormented by visions of silly hand gestures. Despised… Isolated… Tossed out from society.

“Too silly.”

“Booo!” (angry, not scary)

“It just doesn’t really work for this project & I hate you.”
-is what I imagine they’d say if I dared to pitch a puppet idea.

I’d been thinking about puppets for like a week. There was no way I could tell anyone… It was my secret… Until.

The Blender assignment! Our assigned “things” were:

• Suzy The Chronically Late Bus Driver
• A Portal
• “Hast’ thou slain the Jabberwok?”

My team was me, Sana Mills, and Cedar Nabinger. Sana and I had worked together before. Our previous venture into the “Kombucha For Gamers” market was so successful that the success transformed into a blanket of calming energy. Softly wrapping around me. Protecting me from the shame only a puppeteer knows. Draped in success… I revealed my dark secret.
She was super cool and liked the idea. Cedar had strep throat.

Once cedar healed, we had the best team. They were both very supportive and trusting of my ideas. I was feeling very inspired by The Muppets, also Jonni Peppers’ animated films.

To the teams horror, everything came together. Sana’s backdrops were stunning, Cedars shots were beautiful, My puppets were silly, & the script was written! Dan Barber was an absolute darling & gave us an amazing performance with very little prep or notice.

Overall the blender was a lot of fun! It felt really nice to toil over something silly and personal.

Oh no!! It’s gay night at the ice rink and you have nothing to wear!!

….until now.

The pattern on the back was inspired by the pokemon Togapi. Togapi is my favorite patterned pokemon. And I thought it’d look cool on a jersey.

Original logo vaguely hints at a tentacle, this logo boldly states its tentacle. Its much better.

Making this was weirdly difficult, stuff wasn’t lining up & it felt like my brain was turning to spaghetti.

I think the tablecloth roof is cute.

My mother goes gaga for quilts. She has so many. She’s able to talk about her quilts at length. When she was in a more intense quilting phase she taught me how to sew. Which has been a very useful skill, despite being bad at it. Whenever I sew anything I remember her teaching little toddler me how to make a stuffed animal with her cloth scraps.

An in-depth-deep-dive analysis of some design systems.

SALESFORCE LIGHTING DESIGN SYSTEM

Salesforce Lighting Design System is pretty clear, its Flexible, Scalable, Efficient, Accessible, Living, and Platform agnostic.

Principally, they’re very : Clarity, Efficiency, Consistency, Beauty.

Color-Wise, they’re very : Intentionality, hierarchy, branding, and accessibility.

In terms of icons, they blend professional and playful. they’re also; simple, approachable, and legible, distinguished by negative space and large rounded corners. Also recognizable and easy to remember.

And that pretty much covers the entire design system.

ATLASSIAN

Atlassian doesn’t have a design system. They have an “End-to-End Design Language”. It looks eerily like a design system.

Their goal is: “to create simple, intuitive, and beautiful experiences”

Their mission is: “to unleash the potential in every team”

Their promise is: “that our tools and practices will help teams work better together in agile, open, and scalable way”

Their values are: “Open company, no bullshit” , “Build with heart and balance” , “Don’t #@!% [fuck] the customer” , “Play, as a team” , and “Be the change you seek”.

I think that gives you the full picture, lets move on.

ADOBE SPECTRUM

Adobe Spectrum provides components and tools to help product teams work more efficiently, and to make Adobe’s applications more cohesive.

Principally they are: Human, Focused, & Rational

Their iconography is: Clear, Minimal, and Consistent.

Shoes. Who wears ’em? I know I do. Everyday in fact. There’s nothing my dogs ‘n piggies love more than the embrace of modern footwear. Sometimes my feet are so caught up in the intoxicating luxury of orthopedic bliss, that I find myself late to many of my important meetings.

I would love to make a zine of little monsters. drawn in collaboration with other artists. Specifically where we swap control over after a few lines. I think its such a fun exercise and it’d be cool to get a collection collected.

I’d hope it’d improve my adaptability and ability to merge my style with another.
