Freedom of Express 

I would depict it as making a painting of my cultural heritage. I would include my culture’s dress design patterns and monuments and make it into a mural. Just like we did with the mural assignment where we had to make a mural for our mother, I expressed Ethiopian traditions, such as those used in coffee ceremonies or celebrations. My culture is my freedom of expression because it made me who I am.

Freedom of Explore

I would go out somewhere secluded like a forest or a mountain view and photograph the landscape. It can symbolize that having the freedom to explore can lead to something beautiful. 

Freedom of Expectation

A young artist wants to follow their dreams by being an artist but society has made them feel pressure to pursue a more “traditional” career path. The young artist chooses to follow their heart and express themselves through their art by breaking free of their expectations of others and embracing their true calling of being an artist.

Green Night (Climate Defense Initiative)

In this mural, I’ve showcased a pattern from an Ethiopian/Tigrayan dress to symbolize my mother. She has a passion for collecting Ethiopian dresses, and this design always brings her to mind when I see it. I’ve also incorporated elements from Ethiopian traditions, such as those used in coffee ceremonies or celebrations, which you can see in the top left corner. Lastly I included her name written in the Ethiopian alphabet called Ha-Hu to really tie it together. 

DAVES HOT CHICKEN FOODTRUCK

The food truck design I made is for the restaurant Dave’s Hot Chicken that is a restaurant that service chicken in different spicy levels and in sliders as well. I choose that restaurant because I instantly saw a vision on how I can execute the design. Then what I did was use their signature red color to be the main point of the food truck. Red is an eye catching color and it symbolizes fiery heat so, to further empahzie the truck I incorparted flames into the design creating a visual representation of how spicy their chicken is and what Daves Hot chicken is famous for. Including the Logo right in front of the truck is a good marketing tactic to include because thats the first thing that customer will reconzie passing by. This helps establishing their brand identity but also acts as a visual invitation to people to enjoy Daves Hot chicken.

My teammates were great peers to work with! We are all graphic designers and were a little worried about this project because we didn’t know how to work with camera equipment. We all decided to brainstorm on what brief we could come up with from our three sticky notes, Delbruk the bartender, a golf club, and the line “Show me the money!”. We were throwing out ideas until one just stuck. One of my teammates Elan mentioned it being Western-themed and we all loved that idea. Once we got approved we decided to use our abilities on what we’re best at as an advantage, which is illustrations. Using animations had us very excited about how creative we could get in making this short film so we brainstormed more on how our vision can come to life. What went well was all of us having roles assigned and then coming together and joining our ideas. We all participated in making the storyboard on a whiteboard and then splitting which teammate did what to achieve the story. We went to a restaurant that had a bar that gave the Western look and feel. We filmed our intro there and I loved how even though we didn’t know how to manage a camera both of my teammates encouraged me and affirmed that I was doing great. It’s important for your team to uplift you in any circumstance when you feel hesitant about something you think you’re not best at and that’s what my teammates did which was helpful a lot. Overall they did an amazing job communicating and being there for one another and made sure we all had equal amounts of work without someone doing the heavy lifting. I was really happy with the results of our film I always imagined making an animation video and this happened to be the opportunity and I’m grateful for that.

Foodlife Line

If I had $25,000 in my hand I would donate that money to the Seattle Food Lifeline. Food Lifeline has multiple missions of providing immediate relief to those facing hunger and also working to solve the root causes of hunger for a better tomorrow. 

Why I would donate to Food Lifeline is the instant pact. Every dollar you donate can provide an equal amount of four meals which is a huge impact. With $25,000 you can provide just about 100,000 meals to individuals in need! Sitting on this information adheres to the impact of accessibility to resources. This doesn’t only fix the current issue but reconciles that in the future there will be a stable cycle of aid being provided for those who need it. Another reason why I would choose Food Lifelines is that their approach is rooted in sustainability. They’ve saved a lot of pounds of nutritious food from going to waste each year, redirecting it from landfills to tables of those in need. Not only are they helping those in need but also protect the environment by reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Donating to Fooflifeline you’ll become part of a larger movement to uphold human dignity, ensure everyone has access to essential nutrition, and take meaningful steps toward a future where no one goes hungry. The concept of this design is for dog owners who might use their dog bowl at a park, picnic, or a cozy indoor corner. I wanted to include a lot of nature photos to be inspired by the patterns. I include tree trunk patterns, trees, illustrated tree patterns as well as paw patterns to symbolize dogs getting their paws stuck in the mud and leaving traces. For color, I kept it with the theme of a dark forest green, brown, and cream color. I included happy dogs in nature to show the perspective more!

Google Material Design

One thing I’ve notice is it has components kits already made for you to speed up your process. They have materials and tutorials to get you started. I’ve noticed that each card section that they have gives you an asset of making something. For example, an Android app using jetpack compose to build and complete an M3 Android App. They also have color tone guidance where it gives you pre set of accent colors. 

Adobe Spectrum

Adobe spectrum helps provide resources for the team to work efficiently. Each section has links to what you need to have to design faster. The website is very organized, very easy to navigate for people who are new to using the website. It has easy access to download the fonts, colors, kits, and plugins. They also mentioned how Adobe spectrum is used in a real world situation every resource they use is informed by research and thoughtful testing. 

The Guardian Digital Design Style Guide

I’ve noticed they have assets mainly used for websites to make. Below each example, they have information statements about what fonts are used for or other components. They have photo examples of each section and a step by step explanation of what it’s used for. It’s really helpful for users to see how the process is and how the system works. They have a section for grid systems layouts and measurements of what they’re used for. It’s very important to have that information just incase if the designer/ user wants to make changes or know how it was built without only copying and pasting the design layout. 

My group and I decided to make panels in places in Seattle and talk about its history so we each picked a neighborhood. I chose South Park and I had to give a tour of its history from a certain place of South park I chose Marra Farm because it has done a lot of help in my neighborhood since I was a kid and it would be a cool concept to make panels talking about the information of Marra Farm and the benefits to caused for South Park.

The process was easy to navigate into making the panels the only cons was when I launched in Eyejack one of the panels did not load until I refreshed the app multiple times.
