Blog Assignment #3

I feel like taking challenges and stepping up to things is a common thread in my life. But is something I have to embrace as a black male in a corporate industry placed against those that might had more opportunities to be step up for success. Some experience I failed and other I succeed way further than I thought I would have. But those I failed at I learn a lot from and grown from it and took it what I could get from it to push me further.

A decision I made was to jump into the working events for Zumiez. I attempted to be a graphic designer for them and lost in the interview to someone who eventually became my coworker. This opportunity though lead me to grow into marketing and discovery I might one day want to be come creative director and have a better understanding of how graphic design and marketing goes hand and hand in the corporate world. The job I technically never did before but had experience that lend well through things I did for music venues and the some of the knowledge I carried from other marketing and graphic design jobs I held.

I spent 3 years there before parting ways but definitely was an experience I’m glad I said yes to even though it wasn’t everything I wanted it to be. I found out the thing I really want to do and the direction I need to head through the peers I met and the experience I gain.

Blog Assignment #2

I join the design program to improve my skills and build on what I have self-taught myself. I’ve been teaching myself how to design since Myspace era and have been flying by seat most of my career. Even though I taken myself far on my own I’m hoping to learn how to better work with teams and better ways to build more cohesive concepts and ideas. I aspire to be able to flexible both in freelance work and more corporate style work.

I have years of experience in brand marketing, social marketing, and more and want to add in graphic design so that one day I can become a creative director. I have a strong passion for building a brand from the bottom up and helping small to big business to appear more authentic to their audience. It really an obsession and something I feel like I’m good at. I’ve created project such as my own brand called Housepartysea (www.housepartysea.live) that supports underground dance music.

Even with my experience, I am not sure where I really want to land in my career and feel pretty open to trying different things and rising up to the challenge. But if I had to choose the area low information to high but broad audience lending. So I think stuff such as book layouts, website content, and mobile content. Things that I feel are visually can simply but comforting.

A lot of my influences come from skate magazines, weird advertisements, and streetwear fashion culture. Mixing the ideas of breaking rules with balance and seeing where that takes me.

AR PROJECT #1

Reigningcloud

Reigningcloud was a moniker and logo I designed when I first moved to Seattle and kind of exploring the ideas of cloudy weather and creativity. The eye representing the view of the city like watching the world from the clouds above since at the time I really big in photography. A super meta style idea.
