I feel like taking challenges and stepping up to things is a common thread in my life. But is something I have to embrace as a black male in a corporate industry placed against those that might had more opportunities to be step up for success. Some experience I failed and other I succeed way further than I thought I would have. But those I failed at I learn a lot from and grown from it and took it what I could get from it to push me further.
A decision I made was to jump into the working events for Zumiez. I attempted to be a graphic designer for them and lost in the interview to someone who eventually became my coworker. This opportunity though lead me to grow into marketing and discovery I might one day want to be come creative director and have a better understanding of how graphic design and marketing goes hand and hand in the corporate world. The job I technically never did before but had experience that lend well through things I did for music venues and the some of the knowledge I carried from other marketing and graphic design jobs I held.
I spent 3 years there before parting ways but definitely was an experience I’m glad I said yes to even though it wasn’t everything I wanted it to be. I found out the thing I really want to do and the direction I need to head through the peers I met and the experience I gain.
