I want an ipad very much.
Just so I can use procreate.
Although…
there’s a problem.
There are a hundred different versions,
and they all cost a million dollars
let me break it down…
Ok maybe I exaggerated, there are only 6 ipad models available to buy directly from apple. But only one can gain my consideration to purchase.
Its guaranteed that an ipad mini would be instantly pulverized by my gorilla hands, so they’re cut from the race.
When interviewing ipad pro VI, they refused to take off their solid gold top hat and spat on me, too rich for my blood. Immediately disqualified.
ipad pro IV did the same but with 15% less spit. Another instant DQ.
That leaves us with 3 contestants, lets meet them.
Weighting in at $599 with 64GB & $749 with 256GB, a 10.9″ liquid retina display, 8GB of ram, and an 8 core CPU “M1” chip, give it up for the ipad Air!!
In the other corner, weighing in at $329 with 64GB & $479 with 256GB, a 10.2″ retina display, 3GB of ram, and a 6 core CPU “A13” chip, put ur hands together for the 9th gen ipad!!
In a similar but newer & better corner, weighing in at $449 with 64GB & $599 at 256GB, sporting a 10.9″ liquid retina display, 4GB of ram, and a 6 core CPU “A14” chip. say hello to the 10th gen ipad!!!
The judges criteria is that all the confusing numbers need to be as high as possible, while the money number stays as low as possible.
When comparing the 9th and 10th gen ipad, they seem functionally the same, the 10th being ~$100 more and slightly stronger (and maybe more future-proof?). The 10th also has a USB-C port which is appealing.
The real jump in power (and price) is when compairing the ipad to the ipad air. For ~$150 more that the 10th gen (~$250 > 9th gen) I can get a stronger machine with p3 wide color.
Now that brings up a question, what is p3 wide color ?
in short, its got more colors than sRGB. But that brings up TWO questions:
1) will I be able to notice it
maybe, I dunno
2) will it make my designs better
yes*
*as long as they are only viewed on my fancy ipad screen and nowhere else*
ipad Air: DISQUALIFIED
its tough picking between our final two contestants I like the new features the 10th gen brings, but is it $100 worth of features? and the 9th gen seems like it can handle everything I’d do on an ipad, but do I want to invest in a product so late in its planned obsolescence? much to think about.
In conclusion im not buying an ipad anytime soon. If one of the two finalists is on sale, or has a good refurbished deal, I might change my mind.
thnk u for coming to my ted talk/fight, everybody lost, congrats.
