Design First Impressions

Posted by in Uncategorized

As someone who wanted to Design at first as a VM student currently. I would say that my first impression where it would be a lot more creative and less technical. I feel that it would’ve been an interesting program but I glad I decided to also apply for visual media. Knowing now that it is a lot of app development and focus a lot of what you can do for a client. I’m not sure if that was the route I ultimately would want to go down currently. I think that design is very important but starting off it does seem to stifle creativity a bit at first. But seeing the work the second years have made in the hallway does make me a bit jealous. I do want to try and do something like that. It does seem fun to work on something with such a creative end result. It doesn’t seem like a lot of tedious work to understand these programs. But I think ultimately it pays off. Ive worked with a few design students. All of our Friday speakers have had a design background. All of them have very different jobs. Its interesting see how many places you can apply these design skills. Not just making advertisements. But making board games or your own company. Even character design and art direction. Also in general something that I can apply myself even as a visual media student. Is that I don’t have to stay in on position where I start at. I think that showing where there careers go are very helpful. Also put may things into perspective. Having a creative career doesn’t have to go one route. It can lead may different places. And that graphic designers are needed with these skills. Since there are 2 full classes for Graphic Design. But also they we need to learn how to collaborate with them. When creating possibly in the professional world. So I think it in good that we both get insight of what we both do. We might not know everything exactly. It ever learning certain vocabulary pertaining to each program is still a leg up to many other professionals. This will help both sides and help projects run smoother when less explanation is needed. It is exciting seeing what is to come in the future and where are skill will be heading. There is some aspects of design I would like to take more into consideration when creating photos or videos. Like possibly how it would look with text or additional images. Also a certain color palette needed to get a certain idea across. I think over the next year I will gain the knowledge to help me out with that. But overall design students are very creative but also have to be very technical and knowledgeable how things like apps and programs are suppose to function. So projects and run smoother. It’s like they have to think of everything that can improve a user expierience. Even if its how it works or the look and overall aesthetic of a project.
