Using Clockify, I kept track of my week in as much detail as I thought was necessary. Organizing my time and keeping track of it is perhaps my greatest personal weakness so this was a difficult project for me. As the one who asked the question which prompted the assignment, I personally apologize to my fellow students.
Goofs aside, this was probably a valuable experience and I should try and at least keep track of the time I spend on assignments in the future!
Let’s do it. For this assignment I did some quick background work on the artist I was assigned: Empress Of, an electro-pop singer-songwriter from LA! She doesn’t make the kind of music I like to listen to but I did enjoy Kiss Me (feat. Rina Sawayama).
I looked at some album art, skimmed her Wikipedia page and listened to an album, but what I latched on to were some images from a photoshoot with this incredible blue-patterned packdrop:
The pictures in the red dress especially gave me Art Nouveau vibes, probably because that’s my reasearch topic for Design History, and I wanted to attempt an Art Nouveau-inspired poster. Using one of the photos above and some Alphonse Mucha covers as inspiration I sketched the design in pencil, painted with watercolor, and then inked the outlines.
For the plant imagery I used flora local to her homestate of California.
After adding the text and making some final color adjustments in photoshop, this is the final product!
