  1. A project I would like to complete is to design a pattern for, and produce a smoking jacket. I would hope to gain a better understanding for the design process of creating patterns. I have a limited amount of experience with this process but only with simple pieces of clothing like sweatshirts and jeans.
  2. I think this project would take a considerable amount of time because of my already full schedule of school and work, and also because manufacturing takes a significant amount of time. If I were to make a rough time line I ideally complete the pattern design process somewhere between 4 to 5 weeks. I would then give myself another 2 weeks to decide on the material I would use and weather or not I would cut blocks with a bias cut. Negotiation with the manufacturer and making revisions to the samples would be the most time consuming part of this project. From first sending over my completed pattern and all material needed to receiving the final sample would most likely take anywhere from 5 – 6 months. After all that final production would most likely take another 5 – 6 months depending on the MOQ. All and all this entire project if I was being generous with time would probably take around a year and a half.
  3. To execute this project I would obviously need a very large sum of money. Producing 30 pairs of pants was about $6000 so with nicer material and a more complicated pattern to be safe I would say this project would cost at least $8000 depending again on the number of ordered products. Another thing I would need to complete this project is a space to work on pattern design and cutting. My apartment is very small and I don’t own a table so a space to work would be crucial.
  4. I didn’t read ahead and already answered this question.
