Blog assignment #9-Who am I?

Hi, I’m Fawn. I used to design software products for businesses to make them easier to use. It was an interesting job, but something was missing. I realized that what I really wanted was to focus on my creativity and artistic side.

That’s why I decided to go back to school and become a graphic design student at Seattle Central College. I love being able to combine my technical skills with my creativity to create beautiful and effective designs. It’s a perfect fit for me.

I have big dreams for my future in the design world. I want to be an art director and brand strategist in a design agency. It’s a position that will allow me to use all of my skills to their fullest potential. I want to help companies create beautiful and effective brands that truly represent who they are.

Why do I want to do this? It’s simple. I want to keep the passion in design alive. It’s easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day grind, but I never want to lose my love for creating beautiful things. Being an art director and brand strategist will allow me to continue to do what I love while also helping others achieve their goals.

So, where do I want to go from here? Well, I’m excited to see where my career takes me. I know that I have a lot to learn and a lot of hard work ahead of me, but I’m ready for the challenge. I want to work for a design agency that values creativity and innovation. I want to be a part of a team that pushes boundaries and creates something truly unique.

In closing, I just want to say that I’m excited for what the future holds. I’m passionate about design, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me. Who am I? I’m Fawn, a graphic design student turned art director and brand strategist. What is it that I want to do? I want to use my skills and creativity to help others create beautiful and effective brands. Why? Because I want to keep the passion in design alive. Where do I want to go? I want to work for a design agency that values creativity and innovation.

Blog Assignment#8 – Social experimentation videos

“Breaking Stereotypes” – Pair people up with someone they wouldn’t normally interact with based on stereotypes or assumptions. Have them get to know each other and share their experiences.

Why it will elicit an interesting response: Breaking stereotypes is a topic that has become increasingly relevant in our society. By pairing people up with someone they wouldn’t normally interact with based on stereotypes or assumptions, we can see how their preconceptions and biases influence their interactions and how they can break down those barriers to find common ground. This video concept can spark meaningful conversations about diversity, inclusivity, and empathy.

In terms of participants, we should select them base on the survey. Before they take part in, they should make a sequence about who they rarely interact with in this whole academic year. Then, we could also pair participants up according to their lists and let them talk about the specific stereotypes to see how their assumptions and expectations are challenged.

The “Breaking Stereotypes” video concept has the potential to elicit interesting responses by challenging participants’ assumptions and biases. By pairing people up with someone they wouldn’t normally interact with, we can create meaningful interactions and spark conversations about diversity, inclusivity, and empathy. With a diverse group of participants and a comfortable space to film, we can capture a good sense of how the prompt will work and create a thought-provoking video.

Blog assignment #7-Metaverse

According the information of Taco Bell Metaverse Wedding, I have joined the Decentraland Events Platform. I think it would be fun and interesting to see what was happening.

I would like to talk about the experience and feel when I join the Platform.

Firstly, it was such a pity that I did not watch the wedding because I always have dinner in 7 PM which is the time for the event. But keeping the feeling of curiosity, I have joined the platform in the daytime twice. What is wired that there is no people show up in the daytime. Finally, i have join the platform at 8 PM. What make me feel no good is there are lots of people grouping together and gambling. Wow, it makes sense for me. It is a kind of entertainment which attracts user to join Metaverse.

Secondly, I think Metaverse is something far away from the human life. It is not the technique could be widely used for recent future. When I was basically just wondering around, instead of thinking about finding someone and have a chat with them in the Metaverse, I think it will be great to see what will make people spend their time in the Metaverse. In other word, during this process, I did not think people were trustworthy. It might be because I could not see people’s faces and everything for me was fake.

Blog Assignment #6

Reflecting on an experience where I failed to meet the expectations of a project, I’d like to share a story from my time as an interaction designer in a high-tech company. Our monthly product requirement review meetings were crucial in ensuring we were meeting user needs and explaining how the interaction worked. However, during one such meeting, the product manager delivered the document late, leaving me with no time to design the wireframe properly before the looming deadline. I did my best to complete the project with the same quality as before, but had to compromise due to time constraints.

Looking back, I realize that I should have prioritized the most critical aspects of the design to complete the project on time. To do so, I should have reviewed the product requirement document and identified the functions that the developer needed to finish the next month. I would then have focused on designing the essential elements of the main page and ensured that all of them were included, leaving the design of feedback until the next meeting.

During the meeting, I should have collaborated with the engineer to address any technical problems and modify the design accordingly. After the meeting, we would have announced any changes made in the group chat. I now realize the importance of effective time management and prioritization to ensure that all projects are completed on time and to the best of my abilities.

Blog assignment #5

As someone with a background in UX design, I have developed strong hard skills in this field. My expertise in UX design, along with my familiarity with design guidelines, make me a valuable asset to any company looking for a designer who can create human-centered products that deliver specific results. These technical skills are important in getting me the interview and showing my ability to perform the job.

However, I understand that in today’s competitive job market, it’s not just hard skills that matter. Soft skills, such as logical thinking and analysis, and project management, are just as important in securing and thriving in a job. These skills have been honed through my experience as a UX designer, as I constantly need to analyze user data and manage projects from start to finish.

Going forward, I want to continue to grow my skills in artificial intelligence techniques and aesthetic design. These hard skills will not only increase my value as a designer but also enable me to tackle new and exciting challenges in the field.

In addition, I recognize that improving my communication and persuasion skills is crucial for my success as a designer. Being a bilingual speaker, I sometimes struggle to adapt to English-speaking work environments, but with improved communication skills, I’ll be able to more effectively convey my ideas and opinions. Persuasion skills are also crucial in collaborative settings where conflicts may arise. By having the ability to persuasively guide a project to success, I can ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards a common goal.

In conclusion, both hard and soft skills are essential for success in any field. My background in UX design has allowed me to develop strong technical skills, but I understand the importance of also focusing on soft skills such as communication and persuasion. With continued growth in both areas, I am confident in my ability to succeed in my future endeavors.

Blog assignment #1- Food

The Cantonese Style Beef Brisket Soup was a special dish that I had been perfecting for weeks. I had a passion for cooking and loved experimenting with new flavors and ingredients. This soup was my latest creation, and I was eager to share it with my family and friends.

As I stood in the kitchen, I was struck by the sound of the soup boiling. It was a comforting and familiar sound, one that reminded me of my childhood and the times I spent cooking with my grandmother. I realized that the sound would make a great addition to a video advertisement for the soup.

I quickly grabbed my phone and started recording the soup. The camera captured the steam rising from the pot, the sound of the boiling liquid, and the soft and tender pieces of brisket. I then found a box container online and used Photoshop to change the brand and food name.

With the video and the container in hand, I opened After Effects and started working on combining the two. I added special effects, transitions, and animations to make the video more dynamic and engaging. The final result was a visually stunning and mouth-watering advertisement for the Cantonese Style Beef Brisket Soup. I was proud of my creation and couldn’t wait to share it with the world.

Blog assignment #2 Things unpredictable in project

In terms of things not going exactly according to plan, I have to say it must be the first project of  Narrative film making. Thinking of all the projects I went through, filmmaking is the hardest  thing to stick to the plan  for me.

In the program, we need  to shoot a short story on the theme of “The Stalker”. At the beginning , we need to draw a storyboard  to plan what we want to capture in the story. In the storyboard,  draw the image I want in the box, then below describe the shot type, and a brief note on what is happening in the shot.  Besides, we need to use a minimum of 5 shots to cover the action/scene.  Secondly, we need to shoot our storyboard.  At last, adjust footage/shoot additional content as needed.

However, things started to go wrong right from the start. The weather was not cooperating, causing delays and forcing us to change our shooting locations. Besides, as a beginner getting into the filmmaking area, there are lots of things to be modified in the storyboard after I see what we shoot in the camera. Although I only need to  have 5 different shots, I have moved my camera more than 5 times to enrich the story.  I also had technical difficulties with my equipment, which added even more time to the already tight schedule.

Despite these challenges, I pushed forward and adapted my plans to accommodate the circumstances I encountered. I used the unexpected change in cast to bring a fresh perspective to the story and explore new angles. I utilized the weather to the advantage, incorporating it into the story and creating unique and moody visuals.

In the end, I was able to complete the shoot and put together a short film that exceeded my expectations. The challenges I faced taught me the importance of being flexible and creative. The final product was a true testament to the power of resilience and determination.

Blog assignment #3 Personal Project

In terms of a personal project which I could start now and continue working on during my time at the Creative Academy, I would like to say AI generated poster design.  Nowadays, GPT and Midjourny is becoming more and more popular. I saw a video last week which is about earning money by selling Midjourny-generated poster in Etsy. The first thing is searching idea for poster in specific scene via GPT. With the help of GPT, I can reduce the time to brainstorm what kind of poster I would like to make. And then, input the idea of poster into Midjourny, wait for it to generate and select the specific image I like. When I get my poster, sell it in Etsy.

I think it could be a daily project for me.  But the problem for my not start it is I always feel tired after school and feel hard to concentrate. The information I received in the daytime is nearly full in my brain. To solve the problem of timing, I think I should get into the habit of waking up early like Erik who wakes up at 5 or 6 am to some personal project before my brain and body feel overload.

Talking about how much would this project cost to produce, I think it is zero.

OK, let’s start it.
