Introduction:

Google Maps AR or Live View is designed to let you use augmented reality to help you navigate when walking. 

It uses the camera on the rear of the phone to identify where you are, superimposing direction and details on the display, rather than just presenting you with a map.

What UI/UX items can be improved:

1.  It is hard to notice the entrance.

2. To see the AR instructions you need your phone up and pointing at the street in front of you – and you can’t walk like that.

What I think they did well :

 UI: Clear and high-contrast  user interface

Outdoors: A replacement for a compass.  Sometimes compasses in phones (especially Android phones) just aren’t that accurate and are prone to interference, so getting the initial walking direction right using only a compass can be a challenge. AR Navigation, in addition to the cool 3D visuals overlaid on a camera, really is a big help.

Indoor: When GPS doesn’t work indoors, it figure out your location and identify what floor you’re on. In the demo, it tells someone where the escalator is and to go down a level to reach their terminal.

It was a nice summer. My niece always looked forward to the weekend and she always said，“Let’s go to a picnic.” My family would always grant her little wishes. And I recorded what a happy, contented little girl.

The interesting part of it is I taught my niece to count from 1 to 10 in English for the whole summer but she always skipped the number 6. I think when she grows up, she will speak fluently. 

When it comes to a decision in which I chose to say yes when I wasn’t quite prepared to step up to the challenge, I think it must be the one I got promotion to become the team leader even I was a junior designer with only one-year working experience. I went to this company since I am in the school. I was the youngest one in the team, but I was the hardest one who always late to leave. Because I often engaged with the developers to find the best solutions to the design questions. Peoples there were patient and told me how the css or html works. Because of that, I learn a lot of how the computer work which lead me become a better interaction designer.  The time I spend on this work is seen and recognized by more colleagues. Finally, I got promotion and became the lead of interaction design team. But I was not good at communication and do not know how manage a group of people. I felt so tired of it. I know I am not good enough, but through this experience, I learn a lot of management.

I would like to talk about Learn and Be Curious, Insist on the Highest Standards and Hire and Develop the Best in my previous jobs.

When it comes to Learn and Be Curious and Insist on the Highest Standards, I would like to talk about the time when I was working as a junior interaction designer. I was the one who always engaged with the developers to find the best solutions to the design questions. Most of the time, they were patient and told me how the css or html works. Because of that, I learn a lot of how the computer work which lead me become a better interaction designer.  The time I spend on this work is seen and recognized by more colleagues. Finally, I got promotion and became the lead of interaction design team. Therefore, I keep asking why and try my hard to doing everything, because I know somedays people would find you worth more.

Talking about the Hire and Develop the Best, I think that is quite important. Peoples in the same company are in the same teams. You need to interaction and communicate with them. It relates to your daily work and working atmosphere. I always feel stressful and depress if the men I was working with have not passion on work.

In term of the one that I think would be the hardest for me to adopt, it must be Earn Trust.  I am not good at communication and persuade people. When it comes to doing a teamwork, I find it hard for me to gather the team and go to the same direction.

Since I had a class on Narrative Filmmaking, until now, it seems like I have a little experience on photo/video industry. For me, it is the first trial to go to that place.

I am glad to have class on it. Because I was thinking about being a Youtuber as a side job. But I do not have any idea about how to start and what the video begins with. Therefore, I think this class is helpful.

In these 5 weeks we learned the basics of camera, storyboarding, sound and editing by watching the classic part of the famous movies. We used phone cameras and Premiere Pro to create short films. It is not a technique job for the beginner. But for me, it is hard to make the favorite cutting. It is time-consuming. Firstly, we were taught to storyboard first and then film it, but, for me, I am not professional in storytelling. I always came up a few ideas when I was filming and even editing. Everything messed up at the end, so I spend a lot of time in editing. The second thing is it is hard to make the perfect and correct sound for the video. I need to search in the sound file which has more than 2,000 sound effect and listen to it nearly one by one. And then add to video in the Premiere Pro. In total, it is a nice beginning. But I am not in favor of the process of making the film.

To go deep into it, I searched online to learn more about Visual Media.

“Visual Media is all about using images – both still and moving – to create messages that connect with people.”

“Visual media is interpreted using what we, as people, see visually instead of aural (hearing) or tactile (touch) media. It plays a role in advertising, art, communication, education, business, and engineering. Visual media is often used as a learning and teaching aid, such as in presentations and training guides. Photography and video are the primary visual media types and capture a location, moment, memory, or message in a visual form.”

 It seems like a quite interesting way of expression.  Compared to graphic design which emphasizes on idea and using different form of expression, visual media focus on image and the technique to express. Student graduated from this program will become fine artist, photographer, photojournalist, video & film producer.   

For me, I do not consider this career for this moment. But it is nice to think about it in advanced.

Inspired by Australian artist Meredith Woolnough who creates embroideries that mimic delicate forms of nature like leaves, a colorful wall of skeletonized leaves come into my mind.

When I was a child, I was really into picking up the leaves from the ground and staring them for a long time.  After that, I was always surprised by the power of nature. How could the nature have such an organic and powerful shape? The line showing the power within the tiny thin leave which try it best to absorb the water and give nutrient back to the whole tree. I enjoy the moment staring them and feel strength and peace after it.

Working as an Interaction Designer for one and a half year, I was familiar enough with the component from Material Design and iOS design guidelines. But I feel like I was constricting in the App and website design and was tired of making wireframe. And then, I thought it was the time to choose some new types of work. There are several types of job come into my mind. 

The first one is UX designer. The most important part of UX design is knowing the motivation behind the behavior and give the solution for it. It is the key point we need to learn in whatever kind of job area. Personally, it is interesting for me to analyze user and data and define something no one has done before.

The second one is freelance artist making installment in the museum. Although it is different from the first dream job which has high information density and board audience, installment which relatively has low information density and might is suitable for specific audience is something I really into. I have passion in doing specific thought-provoking stuff and expressing myself. Even I will only have small group of audience, I really enjoy hearing feedback that they have something change in their mind or behavior after interacting or watching my installation.

The third one is branding strategist. It is unknown area for me, but I am interesting in making poster and  playing with typography. 

In this week, I was stuck on the Graphic Translation Project in the illustration class. But this Monday, I got inspiration by the process of listening to a story and drawing it with  the pen which no leaving the paper. Jason said, “just let your hand draw and your hand will tell you how to draw”

Inspired by this, I started doing some sketches on the way to school and drawing how I felt when I saw different things. It helped me a lot even on the first day I tried it.

In term of “Mashup”, I think why don’t I draw the video  I took from every spot I have travel to. This behaviors started from the first week to Seattle? It is a huge collection in my phone and have not being edited  and reorganized before.
