The idea to create lamps for this project came from both Seattle’s reputation as a cloudy, rainy city and because of the fact that this hallway is completely lit by artificial lighting. I imagine these lights as bulbous shapes with projections of the water droplet imagery, which feature the reflection of a flower. I want to bring delight, curiosity, and a sense of wonder through this surrealist effect. When coming up with ideas for this project, I thought about surrealist painters, such as Salvador Dali, and the architect Antoni Gaudi, who is known for using color and sculptural effects to create buildings that look both futuristic and organic.
