For my blog assignment I chose to revamp the outdoors space. It’s a space with a lot of potential which is currently being underutilized. In its current form the area provides little shelter from the rain or sun, the round planters look out of place and ill kept and the furniture is old and uncomfortable. My proposed version constructs an awning to provide a sheltered area for dining. I chose not to completely cover the area to allow for more sunlight within the space. I constructed planter boxes along the west and east side. I envision these as steel with a rust patina. The plants along the west side would be shade plants tolerant to the low lights of the area, while the east would have sun loving, drought resistant varieties. The table and benches on the west provide pleasant dining area. They are enameled for easy cleaning and to prevent rust stains on diner’s clothes. one side of the tables are left open for either chairs or simply as an open gathering spot. I wanted to leave flexibility in how the space could be used, so I felt this was the best approach. Please fund my project!
