Freelancers work on their own terms, creating their schedules and finding clients. They typically work for more than one client and do specific jobs. Freelancers have flexibility in their work but have to pay self-employment taxes on their earnings.
Contract/Agency workers have fixed-term contracts through their employer or a third-party agency. The main difference from freelancers is that they typically work for a single company for the duration of their contract and may offer higher wages.
Part-time employees are hired to work fewer hours than a full-time worker. Part-time positions are malleable and fit around an individual’s schedule. However, part-time employees may not be eligible for benefits such as health insurance.
Full-time employees work a set schedule for a single employer. The advantage of full-time work is that employees can earn benefits and paid time off. However, full-time work often leaves little room for flexibility in scheduling.
Personally I feel I will work as a contractor to cut my teeth. It offers good opportunities and generally higher wages while also giving the flexibility to take a break and work on personal projects. I would like to eventually become full time regular somewhere, but I would be picky about where.
