I already have a lot of side projects that i am working on but if i had to make another one i brainstormed some ideas.

Me and My friend want to make a feature length rom com over the summer.

• Why do you feel it would be a good experience or addition to your portfolio?

i have never made anything longer than a short film so i think it would be a good experience and i can use my editing skills to edit our movie and help direct.

• What skills do you hope to gain?

a bit more experience working with actors and working a camera, as well as using and editing with sound.

For my favorite piece of work in my portfolio, I think it was either my film Starfruit or my final shoot for lighting last quarter, but I am going to talk about my film.

Although I made it almost 2 years ago, and looking back with more experience I have a lot I would change, it is still one of my favorite pieces of work and it was very fun to make.

Starfruit is an LGBT short film that I made with my two friends, kiera and natalie, for a film competition in my hometown. We had 72 hours, limited experience and equipment and a list of requirements we have to include.

I was very proud of how this turned out especially considering how little time we had. I think what made this project so amazing was being able to combine all our ideas and make it into one beautiful film.

We worked a lot on setting up shots intentionally, worked with lighting and all had to collaborate constantly for 72 hours, which made us argue A LOT. Luckily I got the rights to a beautiful song my classmate in high school wrote, and it really made the film shine. The whole thing reminds me of a music video.

Looking back, if I was able to re-make this film, I would’ve made a more detailed shot list so everything flowed better, I would work with color grading, audio and working with a camera to improve the look of the film, but the premise was there and considering how I was the only one who knew anything about film at all, I think it turned out beautifully.

I was co director and editor of the film, and if I could reedit the whole thing now I think I could make something really really good.

I hope in the future to work with friends in the freetime and participate in local film competitions and make more stuff like Starfruit, which I will still be proud of 2 years later.

Game Review: Monopoly

 Monopoly, the classic board game that promises to ruin friendships and test your financial acumen, is a staple in every college dorm room. As a college student with a love-hate relationship with both capitalism and group projects, Monopoly embodies the struggle for dominance and economic survival.

Setup and Rules (3/5): Setting up Monopoly can be as complicated as trying to understand that one professor’s lecture slides. Sorting out the money, properties, and dealing with the inevitable rule disputes among friends can be a bit of a hassle. Once you get past the initial confusion, the rules become clearer, although debates about the Free Parking house rule may never be resolved.

 Gameplay (4/5): Monopoly provides a rollercoaster of emotions, from the initial excitement of acquiring properties to the frustration of landing on Boardwalk with a hotel. The gameplay mirrors the unpredictability of college life – you could be cruising along, collecting $200 as you pass Go, and suddenly find yourself in debt because of a few bad rolls. The strategic element of negotiation and deal-making adds a layer of complexity, much like navigating group project dynamics.

Time Investment (3.5/5): Monopoly can be a time-consuming affair, reminiscent of those never-ending group study sessions that start with good intentions but devolve into casual debates about the meaning of life. A single game can stretch into hours, so it’s not for the faint of heart or those with early morning classes the next day. However, the time spent can be strangely satisfying, like the feeling of finally finishing a term paper at 3 am.

 Friendship Dynamics (4/5): Monopoly is notorious for straining friendships, much like that time your roommate ate your leftovers. Negotiations can get intense, and the game has a knack for bringing out the competitive spirit in even the most laid-back individuals. Be prepared for some heated arguments and accusations of unfair trades, but if your friendships survive Monopoly, they can withstand almost anything.

Endgame and Victory (3/5): The endgame of Monopoly is a mixed bag. The player with the most money reigns supreme, echoing the societal hierarchy that college students often find themselves grappling with. However, the victory can sometimes feel arbitrary, determined more by luck than skill. The satisfaction of bankrupting your friends is short-lived, replaced by the realization that you’ll probably still be broke in real life. In conclusion, Monopoly is a timeless classic that captures the essence of both the struggles and triumphs of college life. It may not be everyone’s cup of instant noodles, but if you’re looking for a game that mirrors the chaos of financial juggling and the unpredictability of social dynamics, Monopoly is the way to go – just be prepared to lose a friend or two along the way.

While trying to build a career in video and visual media, I acknowledge what makes me stand out as a creator. I believe I have an unmatched creativity, vision and aesthetic. I am a huge lover of the early 2000s, and a lot of media that was created in that time frame. I want to bring back the authentic y2k feel with a modernized twist to all of my pictures and videos as it makes a comeback in the mid 2020s. Being so young and living alone in a big city, makes my ideas and resources unlimited to express myself. A lot of people won’t go into this field until they’re a bit older. I will be graduating this program when I am 19 which I think makes me stand out, being younger than a lot of other people in this field.

I also have been making films and videos since I was a kid. I started using Premiere when I was 7 and my dad taught me the software. Throughout middle school I had my own YouTube Channel and once I reached high school I was the first student at my school to take their media broadcasting 2-4 class all 4 years, as well as being a TA for the intro class for the Media Broadcasting 1-2. I have been attending the same film camp since I was 10 and since then have become a mentor to kids now joining the camp.

While trying to build a career in video and visual media, I acknowledge what makes me stand out as a creator. I believe I have an unmatched creativity, vision and aesthetic. I am a huge lover of the early 2000s, and a lot of media that was created in that time frame. I want to bring back the authentic y2k feel with a modernized twist to all of my pictures and videos as it makes a comeback in the mid 2020s.
