Spring Quarter W4

This past week was our last to work on the blender film project, and I feel really solid about where my team ended up. Pushing our filming schedule to finish early gave us lots of time to individually start to edit down our scenes, so by last week we were able to spend the work-in-class time beginning to edit our master file together, and create our animated graphics and special effects.

Although one team member was not able to finish the work they were assigned for the week, we were able to use the work-in-class session to finish that shoot, and were still able to stay on schedule with our editing goals.

Because we’d already gathered our backgrounds and sound effects, the green screen editing process went quickly, as did scoring and inputting our sounds into the film.

We all traded off editing the final file, and split up the After Effects work so while one person was editing, other teammates were working on wrapping up other elements. This process worked really well and we were able to finish the film pretty early this week without too much stress. I’m actually really excited to see how the class reacts to it, and am pretty proud of what we were able to accomplish in such a short period of time.

Spring Week 3

Week 2 of our Blender film assignment! This week was our big shooting week. Because our concept is very After Effects heavy, we made sure to get all our footage and initial editing done this week so we have next week to get all our effects the way we want, and add our few animated sequences as well as animated credits and end titles.

We had one big shoot where our group members that were able met up on campus to utilize one of the studios for filming, and outside of that, we all split up the other scenes and took one or two to shoot and edit. The hope is that by Friday we have all the building blocks ready and can starting piecing the final film together in Premiere.

Spring Quarter Week 2

This is our first week working on the Blender film assignment for class. We brainstormed a lot of great concepts on Friday, but this week, had to narrow down our ideas based on feasibility with the time constraints and limitations of our group. Not all team members are in a position to be able to meet up for large-scale shoots due to health concerns amidst COVID, and many of us have still not been vaccinated. So, we went with an idea that utilizes a green screen, and lots of separated shots so that we can all shoot at least something to contribute to the final product without needing to all be together.

After nailing down our concept and writing our treatment all together, I put together the script and another teammate worked on the storyboard. We all plan to review our progress in class and take note of all the B-roll, sound effects, graphics, props, etc. that we will need for the film, as well as divide up the shots.

Moving forward I think the plan is to all shoot our scenes this week and edit them, so we’ll have all the individual “chunks” of the movie ready to be pieced together, so that we can dedicate the final week to keying out the greenscreen and adding our graphics and effects in After Effects.
