AR App

IKEA PLACE

The IKEA Place app is a neat tool for visualizing how furniture or decor would look in your home. I’ve tried the app in my room, and it’s quite realistic. However, my only cons are with the scaling, it doesn’t allow me to scale down as much as I’d like on my phone. Another downside is that it doesn’t feature all the furniture I’d like to use for AR. On the plus side, the app is super user-friendly, and the 3d model feature is a great addition, letting you see the item in a full 360 view. This app is handy for those who struggle to visualize what furniture might look like in their space, eliminating the need to search for the right pieces constantly!

“A NIGHT IN MADAGASCAR”

The inspiration for my idea struck while I was browsing through the file of animations. As I played around, clicking each character, my love for nature and animals guided me. Seeing the lion sparked a connection to the movie Madagascar, and I wanted to capture the essence of both the film and the setting in my work, creating “A Night in Madagascar.”

I faced a couple of issues. The first one, the sound wasn’t syncing properly with the proximity during testing, it started delaying. Also, my laptop kept overheating and shutting down multiple times when I used the program.

The concept was cool! especially seeing the inner workings. I appreciated the attention to detail! For instance, while testing the card, I noticed the animations included shadows, which enhanced the illusion of them being in the room.

Winter 2024 Blog Assignment #7

“BIG SISTER ESSENTIALS”

The Telfar bag, owned by my older sister, is the centerpiece of my story. This particular bag, designed by a renowned Black designer, holds a special place in my heart due to its rich history. Growing up, I would watch in awe as my sister prepared for her parties, her bag lying on the bed, soon to be filled with what I dubbed “big sister essentials” – items like lip gloss and perfumes. These essentials are featured in the photo I took, aiming to encapsulate the cherished memories of both her and my rituals of getting ready, a favorite moment that has stayed with me into adulthood.

AR Poster

I decided to play with the idea of changing scenery and colors for my poster. I was drawn to the idea of day and night being total opposites and I was thinking that’ll create a really cool contrast in my animated poster. The program I used was Procreate it’s a really fun software where you can draw digitally and make animations! The way I made mine was by making changes to every layer I drew and I kept on adding more frames to make the movement happen. Issues that I had was the app would shut down on me while I was making the animations which was frustrating because I kept on restarting the app. Making this poster has been a truly enjoyable journey. It’s been surprising and fun to realize that I can create something unique and cool.

Superbowl Commercials

Beyonce Verizon ad

Ice Spice’s Starry ad

Baja Blast ad

Poppi ad

Dunkin Doughnuts “The Dun Kings” ad

BEYONCE VERIZON AD

This ad was about the power that Beyonce has to break the internet. They used that and incorporated it with the Verizon 5G network aiming for Beyonce to “break” their network by selling lemonade, playing on Twitch, and running for Beyonce of the United States of America. It was all to promote Verizon’s new network using one of the biggest music artists, BEYONCE.

Something that the ad did well was using Beyonce’s renaissance tour outfit and incorporating it with Verizon it was a nice touch to make it on theme with the ad. They did an excellent job on marketing by using Beyonce to break their new network from her influence since we all know anything Beyonce will catch people’s eye or break the internet!

Something they could have done better is slow down the ad I feel like everything was going really fast pace to the point where I couldn’t really capture the moment. Understandably, Ads are supposed to be quick but finding a way to make sure everything is cherished and noticed is important.

POPPI AD “THE FUTURE OF SODA”

This is a huge deal for the brand Poppi as it was their first big official advertisement. The ad was about Poppi being the better alternative to soda that is healthy for you, it showed little aspects of people in their daily lives using Poppi as they’re smiling and feeling better that there’s a drink that tastes like soda but is gut-healthy for you

Something that stuck out to me of how bright and colorful the ad it sold the drink to be more than just any carbonated drink but something that makes you feel good and not feel guilty about it. Another thing that I liked is the way it was filmed and the actors matched the drink that was in their hand. To a lot of people, ads can be boring but executing it visually can engage the audience on what it’s about.

A con was incorporating more of the benefits into the ad they did an excellent job visually and saying it’s a better version of soda but what’s in it that makes it better?

Winter 2024 Blog Assignment #5

A personal project that I’m going to do is make a zine of all the film photographs I took. Although I’m not familiar with photography itself I’ve always been in love with the concept of taking photos and capturing the moment the film was one of them since it’s only one take. In the zine, I would like to incorporate photos of memories and experiencing the beauty of life as well as incorporate my design skills into the zine and be creative with bringing them to life by adding illustrations. I think it would be a good experience to add this to my portfolio because it shows versatility and not only design as well as showcasing a little bit of my life by incorporating memories caught in the moment. The skill I hope to gain is knowing more about the film photography world I want it to be more than a hobby eventually but starting with making a zine would open my interest in film.

MOODBOARD FOR MY ZINE

Brainstorm list

  • Help a small business build their website
  • To creatively direct a whole concept of something sentimental to me
  • Do a film photography project and make a zine
  • Build a clothing brand with my friends
  • Make a whole zine about my family and cultural history
  •  Make album/vinyl covers from musicians
  • Brand packaging for a company
  • Make a short film on a story concept
  •  Poster pitches about my favorite artist and aesthetic
  •  Calbortae with people I look up to

Winter 2024 Blog Assignment #4

I’ve always been into art since I was a little kid. I wanted to be the best of the best but I doubted myself over the years especially when I was little. During the pandemic I wanted to expand my drawing skills by going into portrait realism drawings I was hesitant because I didn’t want to disappoint myself but I tried anyway. I always wanted to expand my genre of art I’m always inspired so I challenged myself to make something I didn’t think I could make. I wanted to draw a person who is meaningful to me by any means so I decided to illustrate one of my favorite artists SZA. I wanted to draw a scene from one of her music videos because I fell in love with the way the black and white looked in the video as well as resonating with the song. Through trial and error, I sketched out the image and was in the zone to the point where I didn’t know what time of day it was. I took a step back to look at my work and realized how proud I was of the outcome I was pleasantly surprised at how realistic it looked since I’ve never drawn anything with this kind of style. I don’t normally give myself credit for my work or give myself flowers because of the process and hours it took to make my art but taking a step back and taking it all in made me emotional on how I’ve evolved as an artist. It fulfilled my inner child from going through trial and error at a young age and the outcome of where I am now. Art is really about exploring, expression, and trying I used to think it’s all about perfection when it’s the process that brings out the beauty in it.

Winter 2024 Blog Assignment #3

The video game I interacted with was Fortnite. This game is set as a battle royale chosen between a single or multi-player layout that can either be played on a desktop or console. In this instance, I played the game using a Nintendo Switch where I was able to play portability to place my experience so that I could play anywhere. I selected a solo game where I had to play to be the last one standing. When the game began, the lobby consisted of other players while I waited with them to get on a bus that was going to skydrop all of us onto areas on the Fortnite map. When I landed in the chosen area it was up to me as a player to collect as much loot to survive and defend myself until the very end of my game. I had to keep in mind that someone could get me out of the game by killing me, so I remained vigilant to build up my ranking.

The purpose for collecting loot is because the whole game is about the last one standing the loot can be weapons like guns and explosives as well as heal to protect from other players. They color cordite the types of weapons you use from grey being the most common, green being uncommon, blue being rare, purple being epic, and gold being legendary depending on what you find it’ll either keep you at and high risk of loose or winning. To make it easier for the users they include a chest around the locations where you find loot (which is all over the map) a glowing symbol with a magical sound will pop up and guide you to where the chess could be. They also used features such as hearing footsteps to know when other players are nearby so that it prepares the user to fight them off. I have a limitation of 5 items of loot you have on deck, this caused me to be intentional about what I need to collect to win/survive. It doesn’t just stop there, every minute there’s a storm that gets closer. Your character has to be in the circle that represents a safe zone away from the storm that can also eliminate you from the game.

I enjoyed seeing the colorful visuals of the game as they tied the experience for the player together. The rush was exciting especially because I wanted to win so badly and by collecting loot. I understood I could receive rare pieces of weapons or equipment that could boost my ranking in the game. Therefore, I was able to look forward to possibly finding those rare gems. This game resorts to you having to use critical thinking skills to keep yourself from being eliminated from the game which kept me on my toes which I enjoyed keeping up with. What I did not enjoy about the game was how the game does not support loading all sorts of character skins as it would typically support specific consoles such as PS4, Xbox, or PCs. As a result, there would be instances in the game where I had to kill someone regarding a bounty/challenge and I could not do so because I did not know what the character looked like since on the Nintendo Switch all the skins were set to default.

Winter 2024 Blog Assignment #1

I would like the image to look like a person getting their teeth checked by the dentist and there’s a whole crowd surrounding them with flashing lights and dancing.

*sketch* description of what I think it looks like…

When I first wrote my prompt it didn’t exceed my expectations. As I kept refining my image description I noticed the more detailed you are the better the image will be. In the first image, I wrote “Person getting a check-up appointment at the dentist and there is a rave happening in the room.” It didn’t incorporate the rave part so for the second image I wrote “Person getting a check-up appointment at the dentist and there’s a dance party in the background.” it still didn’t execute what I envisioned. For the third image revision I wanted to be as detailed as possible to portray what I wanted so I wrote, “Dance party at the dentist with flashing lights and a disco ball.” The faces were not generated fully and one of the kids heads is a disco ball which made me chuckle.

The software I use is PIXLR the cons are you have to be as detailed as possible or it won’t execute the image you want to portray. The pros are it’s free by just signing up!
