AI Prompting

Going through an exploration in AI prompting I decided on the theme of pet-friendly interstellar vacation. I threw together the concept of my idea in photoshop using stock photography. I had the idea of a traveler and their dog visiting a gloomy cybernetic city, both characters overlooking the cityscape.

My Concept Art

Next step was to attempt to get the same results using the AI Image generating software of Bing. Only three prompts were allowed to be ran through the software to get something similar to my concept art.

First Prompt

A traveler and their dog, backshot, looking over a dark cybernetic city, black and white image with glowing green and blue.

Second Prompt

A traveler and their dog, backshot, from shoulders up, no backpack, looking over a dark cybernetic city, black and white image with glowing green and blue.

Third Prompt

A traveler and their dog, over the shoulder shot, no backpack, looking over a dark cybernetic city, black and white image with glowing green and blue.

Conclusion

There seems to be a high amount of variance in each of the AI images. The hardest part was getting the characters in the right position but in the end I was able to them about right. Bing didn’t seem to acknowledge my “no backpack” tag though. The feel of the city was captured pretty well though in the end.

New Technology Watch: Quest 3

One piece of technology that I’ve had my eye on is the Quest 3 VR system. I would like to know more about the cutting edge technology being developed in the virtual reality field. After researching and understanding this new technology I compared its specs to the previous quest 2.

The upgraded specifications of the Quest 3, compared to the Quest 2, offer significant improvements for 3D designers developing software for VR. Here’s a breakdown of how these advancements contribute to a more enhanced and efficient development experience:

Display and Optics:

Quest 3

  • Display Resolution (Per Eye): 2064 x 2208 | 1218 PPI | 25 PPD
  • Refresh Rate: 72Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz
  • FOV (Degrees): 110 horizontal / 96 vertical
  • Optics: Pancake lens, continuous IAD
  • Color Gamut: 100% of sRGB

Quest 2

  • Display Resolution (Per Eye): 1832 x 1920 | 773 PPI | 20 PPD
  • Refresh Rate: 90Hz/120Hz
  • FOV (Degrees): 90 horizontal & vertical
  • Optics: Fresnel lens, 3 position IAD adjust
  • Color Gamut: 100% of sRGB

How it Benefits 3D Designers Creating Software:

Sharper and More Detailed Visuals:

The higher display resolution (2064 x 2208) and pixel density (1218 PPI) of the Quest 3 offer developers a clearer and more detailed visual representation. This is crucial for 3D designers who need precision in assessing the visual quality of their software.

Versatile Refresh Rate Options:

The Quest 3 introduces a range of refresh rate options (72Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz). Developers can optimize their software to perform seamlessly across different refresh rates, providing flexibility for various user preferences and device capabilities.

Expanded Field of View (FOV):

The wider FOV (110 horizontal / 96 vertical degrees) enhances the immersive nature of the virtual environment. Developers can take advantage of this expanded FOV to create more engaging and spatially dynamic 3D experiences.

Optics Technology for Comfort:

The pancake lens with continuous IAD adjustment in the Quest 3 contributes to a more comfortable viewing experience. Developers can consider this when designing software interfaces, ensuring that users can engage with 3D content for extended periods without discomfort.

Core Performance and Architecture:

Quest 3

  • SoC (System on Chip): Snapdragon XR2 Gen2
  • DRAM: 8GB
  • Base Storage: 128GB, 512GB

Quest 2

  • SoC: Snapdragon XR2 Gen1
  • DRAM: 6GB
  • Base Storage: 128GB, 256GB

How it Benefits Software Development:

Enhanced Processing Power:

The upgraded Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 and increased DRAM (8GB) in the Quest 3 offer improved processing power. This is crucial for developers working on resource-intensive 3D applications, ensuring smoother rendering and interactions.

Ample Storage Options:

The Quest 3 provides higher base storage options (512GB), allowing developers to create more expansive and content-rich 3D applications without worrying about storage limitations.

In summary, the Quest 3’s improved display, optics, versatile refresh rate options, expanded FOV, and enhanced processing capabilities provide a more advanced and developer-friendly platform for creating cutting-edge 3D software. This allows developers to craft more immersive and visually stunning experiences for users engaging with virtual content on the device.

I think this technology could really help me achieve an edge in my future career by being able to feel out the full extent and boundaries of current VR graphic and hardware capabilities. I hope to pursue the career path of 3d designer or art director in a company utilizing 3d graphics.

Are you a disruptor?

With my past I would say that I’ve been a disruptor for a long time, not particularly following the norms. I’ve come out as queer first and then trans publicly both in the past and routinely fought against societal norms wherever I’ve gone. I’ve been there in standing together with communities and individuals against backlash in the past and still to this day. It has given me a sense of unwavering, personal expression, individuality, and community even.

Part of my vision is to create collaboration and acceptance for everyone in my team for future projects. It’s nothing too revolutionary but I know for sure I want to bring kindness to projects and the workplace. Knowing what it’s like to stand on the edge I want everyone in the workplace to feel welcome and be able to apply their skills to collaborative projects.

I bring a distinctive vision and style to the table that blends organic creativity, organization and teamwork seamlessly. I can follow and communicate projects and instructions clearly while bringing my own organic specialized style forth through everything while bringing everyone together too. I’m not afraid to bend the rules a little to let style shine through.

My past and experiences help me approach the program in a constructive and determined way. I’m not afraid to take problems head-on and see what happens next. I’m always ready for the challenges that lay ahead of me. I also think if you want to tackle these problems with your fellow classmates and or co-works, there is no need to stick it out alone if you can be a part of a strong community or group that communicates clearly.

This pretty much sums up what I hope to be able to do in any workplace I end up at. I know following guidelines and rules are important at times but it’s also important to know when to deviate too.

Letters in the Wild

For this project we were all assigned a specific letter and had to spend a bit of time finding the letter, “in the wild”. The letter could not be in a sign or written text.

I had to convince my partner to take a trip with me to the store while I searched around for the letter like a crazy person. It was when we were in the store I started to notice little hooks on products that were close to the bottom of a lowercase g. It didn’t take long until I finally found one after holding the top hook of a toothbrush upside down, that resembled the letter I was looking for.

A majestic g caught in the wild.

International Destinations

For this project we were to choose international locations that we would hypothetically like to work out for future job positions.

I chose Canada and Sweden for my locations of choice based on their reception to queer and trans individuals. It is a high priority of mine to work in country that accepts transgender people and has an atmosphere I feel safe living in.

Possible Jobs

I am not beholden to working in the games industry but I would enjoy a job that has aspects of 3d modeling. Other positions of graphic design and art direction interest me too.

AR Scanning Test

Tasked with using AR and new technology scanning applications we were to use Polycam to Scan an object and bring it to life in the real world with a quick video. I used my apartment and some royalty free music (by daub_audio) to put together my video.

CHBP Poster Concept

For my project I was assigned to make a fictional poster of the band Mamma for the Capitol Hill Block Party.

I had never heard of the band before so before even embarking on designing I listened to most of their discography. After gathering that they were an indie rock/grunge band I decided on a retro theme. Going for the DIY underground approach reminiscent of the early 90’s grunge emergence with some punk and rock influence.
